WATCH: Deep Dive into "Megalopolis" with "Ashley Talks Movies"
Sitting down with Ashley Carter of "Ashley Talks Movies" to share perspectives and reactions to Francis Ford Coppola's latest film.
Happy Friday, friends.
No new review this week, but I wanted to share something unique. My friend and colleague Ashley Carter, host of “Ashley Talks Movies” on YouTube, recently asked me to join her for a long-form discussion of “Megalopolis”, Francis Ford Coppola’s recent film which has left most cinephiles cold while being relatively ignored by movie-going audiences in general. (After three full weeks in theaters, “Megalopolis” has grossed just over $11.3 million worldwide. At a price tag of around $120 million, it is easily the biggest financial flop of 2024.)
The poor box office grosses aside, there’s a lot to talk about with this film, and in a way that’s most likely what Coppola intended all along—a conversation starter, rather than a money-maker. Of course, the conversations we’re having about it are probably not what he hoped they would be, but who can control that?
So here you go—the recording of our deep dive into Coppola’s effort here and what we came away from it with. It was a lot of fun to do and I hope you enjoy it.
And for your reference, here’s my original review of “Megalopolis” from back in September:
