Variety reports “Monkey Man” made $10 million in its domestic debut, coming in second behind “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” which earned $31.7 million in its second weekend.

The competition just gets tougher next weekend. A24’s “Civil War”, another film that made a buzzy debut at SXSW in March, arrives in U.S. theaters Friday.
